Reflection

This assessment gave Alex and I a good look at what our students were actually learning, and if they were retaining the information. I was surprised by how many students actually understood the concept of supply and demand because it is such a difficult topic to teach and understand. I think using this type of assessment would be helpful if used the next day so students have a day to let it fully sink in and it is not fresh in their minds so they can just regurgitate the same words we said to them. It would also teach the students to store the information in their long term memory instead of their short term memory to forget once they left the classroom.

We had really positive results on our informal assessment. Many of our students knew what the lesson was about and could explain the concepts in their own words. I think we could present our objectives and outcomes more specifically so the students know exactly what to look for in the lesson. I think another way to help students understand Supply and Demand is to provide more visuals for visual learners. Handouts with graphs and pictures could be used and help students when referencing back while studying. I also think it would be beneficial to write the specific objectives and learning outcomes on the board so they students know what they will be learning before class starts to prepare themselves.
